Ever had an occassion when you felt led to just go bake a cake?
It is true that an enticing piece of cake is just like soothing chicken soup. Yes, it is true we use cakes a lot to celebrate birthdays particularly nowadays novelty birthday cakes. But cake I believe is the quintessential essence of soul food and celebration.
My friends arrive at my home, and I like to serve them cake.
Whether it be a cupcake with some chocolate icing and a smartie on top, or a mature lemon friand…in some way gathering around cake makes our meeting together more memorable.
When someone has something to celebrate we eat cake.
A birthday, birth, bon voyage, or super bowl party.
Just like a trusted friend, cake is always there.
It is quite common to make your own birthday cake? Individuals like me.
Think of all the wonderful mothers out there. I know last year I made my own birthday cake out of necessity. I did not want to buy one, my children are too young to bake and my husband had no idea how to even begin to make a cake. I happily created one on my own. I have to say it was a complete success, a centrepiece of the table, and a cake that was a complete statement of me at that specific time.
It is a little quirky when you think about it….People can be sumed up in a particular cake.
Novelty birthday cakes for people who themselves are very much into details, and love the time and effort of heaps of embellishments.
There can be quick and easy cakes with messy chocolate icing and a few sprinkles for those others who just like the idea of something simple, yummy and made with love.
Honestly, just the word cake makes my mouth salivate. Cake images spring up in my mind at hearing the audible word.
I have to confess even when teaching the alphabet to my kids the letter ‘C’ is always followed by the word ‘cake’. A visual of something wonderful and delicious.
I know some think of cake as just some mixture of sugar, eggs and flour. But somehow when it is lovingly mixed and placed into the oven, something magical happens. Even your chaotic life and home can feel calmer with the smell of a cake baking away happily in the oven. The excitement and aroma of something yummy about to be finished….
Ok, here is some advice only given to those who are thoroughly enticed by all things good - go into your kitchen today mix together a few ingredients and make yourself a cake.
So why not just make yourself a cake?… just for fun and just to celebrate life and all its good things.
